Soccer Action is a community program that utilizes soccer to drive social and community cohesion in the Stoke area of the UK. The program targets disengaged young people and encourages them to work as a team and participate in purposeful out-of-school activities. We have provided over $100,000 of funding, as well as management support, which has unlocked public sector funds to create a $680,000 four-year soccer coaching program, with support from the Soccer Foundation and Sportsmatch. Additional funding has enabled the program to extend to more schools. |
This program has already proven extremely effective in reducing vandalism and other anti-social behavior amongst students at risk of social exclusion.
The program was officially launched by Rt. Hon. Richard Caborn MP, Minister for Sport, in December 2006.
