Building Health Program

Building Health is a partnership of organizations working together to ensure that local people have access to training and employment.

This program, sponsored by Balfour Beatty Capital, is a clearinghouse for healthcare training and employment opportunities with a wide range of employers across hospitals, primary care trusts and private care homes. It is located on site, in a facility specifically built for this purpose.

The program works with employers to maintain a portfolio of entry-level job openings. Then, through community engagement activities, it encourages members of the local communities to apply for these jobs. In addition, the program offers pre-employment help and training. The goal of this forward-thinking project is to help people develop skills that will lead to employment.

Results to date demonstrate significant success. Activate, the six week intensive training program, has revealed that 45% of participants successfully gain employment, with a further 25% going on to meaningful further education.

The program was started early in 2006 and will be funded until 2008 by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NOF), after which the aim is for the project to continue on a self-funding basis, if required.
