Balfour Beatty Capital promotes sustainability by employing long-term thinking and planning for all our projects.
Improving our performance
Over the last four years, the companies of Balfour Beatty reduced our relative UK contribution to global warming by 27%. We have also reduced our water consumption by 12% since 2005. Close to 96% of our operations achieved ISO 14001 or its equivalent in 2006. Read more in our 2006 Corporate Responsibility Report (PDF).
Planning for high sustainability
Our environmental policy has three primary goals.

 | And, we continually improve the environmental performance of our own depots, offices, manufacturing facilities and vehicle fleets |
Enhancing the environment through our work
In all of our activities, we take every precaution to protect the environment. Whenever practical, we encourage more sustainable design options that enhance or improve the environment. In addition, we measure and limit the environmental impact of our projects. These impacts include trends in specific environmental indicators, water consumption, recycling and biodiversity.

Texas SH121 (Dallas)
Reconstruction of more than five miles of existing highway and replacement of an existing at-grade interchange with a three-level interchange.
Golden Gate Bridge
Balfour Beatty led the massive seismic retrofit of San Francisco's world-famous Golden Gate Bridge, building a continuous truss system that strengthened five individual trusses on the Golden Gate's north approach.
